In honor of Oral Cancer Awareness Month, Costa+Williams Dental Health Care will be offering free oral cancer screenings, as well as brunch and coffee at our office on James Island, on Saturday, April 14th, from 9:00am to 1:00pm. This is a great chance to gather information about the disease and its risk factors, and also to simply meet our dentists and staff, ask questions, and converse over some coffee and pastry. Oral Cancer has existed outside the understanding of much of the public, yet 37,000 Americans will be newly diagnosed this year alone. Regular screenings are important now more than ever, because oral cancer is on the rise. Every hour of every day in the US, oral cancer kills one person, and 100 new individuals will be diagnosed each day. When found early, through a simple, painless, and quick screening, the survival rate is 80%-90%. However, when found at a later stage (stage three or four), the chances of survival drop to 20% to 30%. Late discovery and diagnosis are major factors in the high death rate and are mainly due to a lack of opportunistic screenings and public awareness.
We would like to invite everyone to our office to take advantage of this opportunity. This is a drop-in, so come when you like. If you would like additional information, please give us a call at (843)737-4437. We hope to see you there!
